Software Quality Assurance Engineer - San Francisco, CA

 Software Quality Assurance Engineer

BW Office: San Francisco, CA

Who We Are:

Business Wire, a Berkshire Hathaway company, is the global market leader in press release distribution and regulatory disclosure. We are on a mission to redefine how organizations connect with their audiences - and that’s just the beginning!

Organizations, big and small, depend on us to accurately publicize market-moving news and multimedia, host online newsrooms and investor relations websites, and generate social engagements that continuously develop interactions with their target audience.

 About The Team:

The Software Quality Assurance team at Business Wire is a mix of QA engineers and test automation engineers working on a wide-array of applications ranging from legacy to cloud. We support multiple development teams in several product areas. We focus on continuous improvement and finding better ways to test so that we can deliver great software and products.  We are a diverse team, and we are always learning.

About The Role:

The Software QA Engineer tests our many Business Wire software applications, both in the context of ongoing sprint work as well as larger projects and releases.  Much of this is manual testing, but with a technological focus; be prepared to also use various specialized automated test tools and our custom test automation framework.  You will be continually pushing the boundaries of what (and how) we test, and you will constantly be looking for ways to improve our processes to yield ever-better quality outcomes.

What You’ll Do:

  • Partner with development teams to understand features, and then figure out how to test them.

  • Identify and write test cases, and grow our body of regression tests.

  • Partner with the test automation engineers to identify automatable tests.

  • Identify, log, and track issues as part of sprint work and during larger test projects and releases.

  • Execute test plans and report on testing status during test projects and releases.

  • Run test automation as needed, locally or as build system jobs.

  • Maintain a broad understanding of our applications (which includes web sites, APIs, SaaS integrations, cloud native services, and more), and dive deep into functional areas as needed.

What You’ll Need:

  • 2+ years of QA experience showing increasing skill and responsibility; you should have a deep understanding of QA standards and the software project lifecycle.

  • 1+ year of experience defining and writing your own test cases based on a strategic plan for coverage.

  • Extensive experience with the validation of enterprise-class software applications.

  • Experience with Agile methodologies, mastery of testing in an agile context.

  • Experience with open source test tools, like Selenium and Appium.

  • Exposure to continuous integration tools, like Jenkins.

  • Experience with distributed version control systems, like git.

  • Hands on experience with test automation beyond Selenium would be a bonus.

  • Good understanding of the product life cycle, including software development methodologies, design, and implementation.

  • Should be very comfortable with web testing, including browser developer tools and browser automation tools like Selenium and webdriver.

  • Understanding of how to write a great test case that is appropriately scoped and actionable.

  • Must have a solid foundation of software test experience, and a strong grasp of quality assurance philosophies and practices.  We talk "test" a lot here.

  • Comfortable with the pressure of testing in an agile delivery system.

  • Excellent written and verbal skills.

  • Self-motivated, able to work independently, and perform multiple tasks under minimal supervision.

  • Demonstrated ability for complex problem solving.
